ABOUT THE ROLE The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction (BEDC) seeks two Assistant Civil Engineers to serve as Assistant Project Managers for the Wastewater Capital Program (WWCP) directorate in Queens, NY. The selected candidates will support upgrades and state of good repair construction projects at wastewater resource recovery facilities, combined sewer overflow facilities, and pumping stations. This role ensures project goals and milestones are met while maintaining strict adherence to environmental health and safety, quality, schedule, budget, and client service standards. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Support the project team in preparing, negotiating, and processing modifications to consultant contract scope, cost, and schedule. - Serve as design and construction support staff, ensuring Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) is incorporated throughout the project lifecycle. - Develop seamless communication and coordination with agency bureaus, other city agencies, and key stakeholders. - Resolve issues, mitigate risks, and manage the quality of project delivery while continuously monitoring key performance indicators for budget, schedule, and contract metrics. - Develop and track contract documents. - Manage the development of design documents. - Conduct field investigations and develop solutions to issues. - Review and maintain scope, schedule, and cost development and management. - Handle contract administration and procurement. - Communicate regularly with project stakeholders. - Adhere strictly to Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) regulations. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in civil engineering and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or 2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and a Master's degree from an accredited college in civil engineering. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - May be required to work extended days from time to time. - Must be able to perform fieldwork involving standing and walking on uneven surfaces, steep slopes, and stairs in all weather conditions. - Requires operation of a motor vehicle to perform site visits, equipment testing, inspections, and attend meetings with project stakeholders. - Preferred skills include robust knowledge of wastewater treatment systems and equipment, understanding of applicable codes and design guidelines, ability to read engineering reports and drawings, and excellent communication and writing skills. - This position is open to qualified persons with a disability who are eligible for the 55-a Program.
