Deputy Prosecuting Attorney - Juvenile Division

ABOUT THE ROLE Join the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office Juvenile Division to handle a large caseload of juvenile criminal matters. The division is a national model in innovative, effective responses to youthful offending, holding respondents accountable while offering chances for positive change through Restorative Justice Initiatives such as the CHOOSE 180 Program, Family Intervention and Restorative Services, Restorative Community Pathways, and Truancy Drop-Out Prevention. The position is primarily in-person at the Clark Children & Family Justice Center in Seattle, with some telecommuting ability as business needs allow. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Vertically handle a large caseload of juvenile criminal matters - Effectively file, negotiate, and try cases - Apply Restorative Justice practices in case management - Engage in community outreach as needed - Provide regular calendar coverage, including occasional weekend coverage via telecommute - Interpret and explain policy and law to officials, other professionals, and victims or witnesses - Manage complex caseloads and maintain appropriate records, logs, and case files MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Washington State Bar qualified - Experience in criminal law, preferably with prior juvenile or felony level filing cases, negotiating cases, and trial experience - Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills - Strong work ethic and commitment to working effectively in a team environment - Strong ability to accept feedback and coaching, and to implement it into practice - Strong commitment to Race, Equity, Social, and Justice issues, including working on personal cultural competency SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Member in good standing with the Washington State Bar - Must submit to a criminal history check - Must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to the King County worksite - New hires to the Prosecuting Attorney's Office may be required to work in-office four days every week for six months - Must maintain a workspace with a reliable internet connection to perform work and remain responsive during scheduled hours when telecommuting SELECTION PROCESS - Applications or supplemental questionnaires that state "see my resume" or are left blank are considered incomplete and will not be considered competitive - Candidates must acknowledge in the supplemental questions that they have reviewed the Rules of Professional Conduct and are aware of their obligations HOW TO APPLY 1.
