About This Position
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Senior Crew Leader - Traffic Supervisor performs and leads others in specialized and skilled work related to traffic equipment within the Department of Public Works (DPW). This role involves installing signal control equipment, performing field maintenance, installation, and replacement of traffic signals, traffic markings, and related items. The position provides guidance, assistance, and training to Traffic Workers under the general supervision of the Traffic Supervisor.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform journey-level work for the routine installation, repair, and maintenance of ITS equipment, traffic signals, and streetlight devices, including using heavy equipment such as an aerial truck
- Conduct routine field inspections to determine equipment functionality and investigate complaints regarding outages and brightness levels
- Perform preventive maintenance on streetlight and traffic control equipment, including pulling cables and ensuring safety requirements are met
- Reconstruct and refurbish traffic signal equipment or defective electrical equipment, advising management of potential safety hazards
- Perform traffic marking tasks and traffic sign making
- Consult with traffic operations staff or vendor representatives to identify and resolve technical problems
- Set and remove temporary traffic control signage, cones, and barricades to safely complete installations and repairs
- Utilize a work order system to generate reports and review performance data on traffic signals and streetlights
- Perform related work as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Seven (7) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of ITS equipment or other electronic and electrical equipment
- VDOT Intermediate Work Zone Certification
- IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Level I or IMSA Roadway Lighting certification
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be willing and able to work outdoors under adverse weather conditions
- Preferred qualifications include an Associate degree in Electronics or Electrical Science, training or experience with the National Electrical Code (NEC), experience with Cartegraph or similar asset management systems and MS Office, experience with traffic management systems, IMSA Level II certification in Traffic Signal Technician and Traffic Signs and Markings, and a Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
