Police Officer I (Lateral, Currently Certified)

ABOUT THE ROLE The City of Falls Church Police Department is seeking currently certified DCJS Police Officers (Lateral Transfers) to join their dedicated team. This full-time, non-exempt position offers opportunities across various divisions, including patrol, investigations, K-9, traffic, community services, and School Resource Officers. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Provide the highest level of public safety and customer service to the community. - Participate in ongoing training throughout the career to strengthen skills and maintain compliance with state laws and policies. - Perform duties across specialized assignments such as patrol, investigations, K-9, traffic, or community services as needed. - Successfully complete field training and a one-year probationary period after field training. - Uphold the core values and professional standards of the Police Department. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Age: At least 20 years and 6 months at the time of application, and at least 21 by the date of hire. - Citizenship: United States citizen (permanent resident aliens with a pending naturalization application may be considered). - Education: High school diploma or GED. - Driver's License: Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver's license by the date of hire. - Certification: Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Law Enforcement Officer certification, or law enforcement certification in another state with the ability to obtain a DCJS training waiver. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Favorable driving record and clean criminal history. - No felony convictions, pending misdemeanor charges (theft, domestic violence, assault, moral turpitude, sex offender registry, or firearm prohibition), recent DUI/DWI, or multiple moving violations. - No associations with criminal gangs, extremist, racist, or anti-Semitic groups. - No recent history of bankruptcy, substantial debts, or poor credit. - No illicit use of Schedule 1 or 2 drugs, anabolic steroids, or unauthorized distribution of drugs within three years of application. - No use of marijuana from the date of application, and no use of tobacco or marijuana products from the date of hire. - Must pass a medical assessment (including physical agility and vision tests) and a pre-employment drug screening. - Must sign an employment agreement contract and be able to work 12.5-hour rotating shifts.
