About This Position
ABOUT THE ROLE
Located in the Department of Health, School Health Services Program, this position delivers comprehensive school-based healthcare to students across the District of Columbia. The role ensures timely access to primary care, preventative screenings, chronic disease management, and health education. The incumbent exercises a high level of independence in administering and managing assigned functions, ensuring compliance with District of Columbia and Department of Health policies and regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee and support a team of Nurses, ensuring effective clinical operations and compliance with health protocols.
- Provide mentorship and clinical guidance to health suite staff, assisting with complex cases.
- Supervise clinical service delivery, including first aid, emergency response, medication administration, screenings, and chronic disease management.
- Coordinate staffing and work distribution based on patient needs, caseloads, and health suite capacity.
- Monitor documentation and data entry to maintain accurate patient health records, immunizations, and screening results.
- Analyze health suite data trends and recommend improvements to enhance patient health outcomes.
- Serve as the primary health liaison for administrators, parents, guardians, and healthcare providers.
- Lead communication and health education efforts on topics like chronic disease management, hygiene, and nutrition.
- Ensure proper use of electronic health record systems and manage health suite supplies and inventory.
- Support the development and evaluation of health programs, such as immunization drives and mental health initiatives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. A graduate, bachelor's, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program (accredited by CCNE, COA, ACME, or a USDE-recognized body).
2. Foreign nursing school graduates must possess official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools.
3. Must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
4. Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a US territory.
5. Specialized experience equivalent to at least one year of the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- At least 3 years of hands-on patient experience in a healthcare or school setting within a managerial role is strongly preferred.
- Must possess CPR/AED certification and complete mandated continuing education requirements.
- Must possess a valid driver's license to operate a government or personal vehicle for site visits and nurse trainings.
- Designated as a Safety-Sensitive position: Must pass a criminal background check, traffic record check, and pre-employment drug and alcohol test. Employment may be disqualified based on the presence of marijuana, even with a medical card. Subject to periodic, random, post-accident, and return-to-duty drug and alcohol screenings.
