About This Position

ABOUT THE ROLE - Under general supervision, responsible for the training, control, and direct supervision of Lifeguards. - Ensures the maintenance of the bathing area and the safety of persons swimming or using the recreational facilities of the beach or pool area. - Required to exercise sound judgment in emergencies and life-threatening situations. - Exercises supervision over a number of Lifeguards and may supervise Recreation and/or Park Attendants. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Oversee and direct the operation and training of the lifeguard staff in all facets of aquatic operations, with special emphasis on safety and first aid techniques. - Assign Lifeguards to work schedules, special tasks, and posts. - Guard and assist pool patrons, administer first aid, and perform the same work tasks as the Lifeguards. - Assist in administering tests at Lifeguard training sessions. - Supervise the general care and cleaning of pool facilities and the maintenance and minor repair of all program equipment. - Maintain discipline among Lifeguards. - Supervise enforcement of beach and pool regulations. - Supervise the swimming program, including learn-to-swim, advanced instruction sessions, and the competitive program during assigned shifts. - Provide written reports on all accidents. - Assume major responsibility in operating and maintaining the facility filtration and chlorinating systems with the aid of Lifeguard staff, Park Foreman, and/or other maintenance personnel. - Supervise cleaning of the bathing area prior to and during operating hours. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Three seasons of experience as a Lifeguard. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Current Water Safety Instructor's Certificate. - Current lifeguard training certificate from the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, YMCA/YWCA, or Boy Scouts of America. - Must maintain current certification in first aid and CPR as a professional rescuer. - Physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position. - Candidates may be required to pass a practical test administered by the department.
