About This Position

ABOUT THE ROLE The Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) is seeking a Civil Rights Compliance Program Supervisor to monitor K-12 school districts' compliance with state and federal civil rights laws and investigate discrimination complaints. Acting as a neutral resource rather than an advocate, this role provides technical assistance to parents, students, and educators to help them understand civil rights responsibilities and resolve issues. The position is supervised by the Managing Attorney of the Equity and Civil Rights Office and involves some statewide travel. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Provide technical assistance and resources regarding civil rights requirements to schools, parents, and advocates - Respond to and investigate allegations of discrimination, facilitating resolutions - Coordinate and conduct compliance monitoring of K-12 schools, including on-site reviews, and monitor corrective actions - Research and analyze potential discriminatory policies, procedures, and state and federal nondiscrimination statutes - Design and lead training programs for stakeholders regarding civil rights and complaint procedures - Prepare guidance, bulletins, reports, and tools to support the Equity and Civil Rights Office - Collaborate with state and federal agencies, advocacy organizations, and other OSPI departments MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Law degree from an accredited law school OR a Bachelor's degree or higher in K-12 education, public administration, law, or a related field - Three years of experience in investigations or legal analysis (preferably in civil rights) if applying with a Bachelor's degree - Must reside in the state of Washington - Ability to travel statewide SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Desired qualifications include experience conducting investigations, K-12 education system experience, knowledge of state and federal nondiscrimination laws, and mediation or conflict resolution skills - Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to deliver technical and legal information clearly - This is a Washington Management Service position and is not represented by a bargaining unit SELECTION PROCESS - Applications will be reviewed based on the submitted letter of interest, resume, and alignment with the required and desired qualifications HOW TO APPLY - Apply online through Careers.wa.gov by September 8, 2026, at 11:59 PM Pacific - Applications must include a letter of interest addressing the qualifications, a current resume, and a list of three or more professional references - All documents must be attached in MS Word or PDF format before submission - For questions, contact Sal Salazar, Human Resources, at sal.salazar@k12.wa.us or 360-725-6278 - For accommodation requests, contact the HR Office at 360-725-6270 or hroffice@k12.wa.us EMPLOYMENT DETAILS - Location: Thurston County, Olympia, WA (Hybrid telework available; 3 days in-office during training, then up to 2 days work-from-home) - Department: Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), Legal Services Division - Job Type: Full Time - Permanent - Job Number: 2026-06810 - Closing Date: September 8, 2026, 11:59 PM Pacific
