About This Position
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Administration for Children's Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families. The Division of Youth and Family Justice (DYFJ) provides services for youth in the juvenile justice process. The Case Management Supervisor works within the DYFJ detention continuum at Crossroads Juvenile Center, overseeing intake, coordination, advocacy, planning, discharge, and re-entry for youth in secure detention.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct, manage, and coordinate day-to-day case management operations within a juvenile detention facility.
- Directly supervise a unit of Case Managers, administrative clerical staff, and interns, and participate in orientation and in-service training.
- Account for the intake process and procedures of new residents.
- Conduct ongoing reviews of case files, including progress notes.
- Ensure direct assistance and facilitation for youth in areas of intake, assessment, educational advocacy, crisis intervention, counseling, programming, mentoring, discharge, and re-entry.
- Collaborate with program and facility staff to ensure appropriate documentation and maintenance of the youth behavior management system.
- Ensure timely communication and collaboration with youth, families, courts, attorneys, and other agencies.
- Ensure case management attendance at detention and milieu-based meetings to support care planning and discharge recommendations.
- Ensure completion and maintenance of adjustment reports, statistical reports, data entry, and case management records.
- Monitor employee performance and manage disciplinary matters in consultation with the Director of Case Management.
- Assist the Director of Case Management with case tracking, data collection, and reporting to identify trends and inform policy development.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A master's degree in social work from an accredited school and four years of full-time, paid professional experience in a child care institution or group work with children, including two years in an administrative capacity.
- A master's degree in sociology, psychology, education, public administration, or a closely related field, and five years of full-time paid professional experience as described above, including two years in an administrative capacity.
- Education and/or experience equivalent to the above. All candidates must have two years of administrative experience in a child care setting.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Section 424-A of the New York Social Services Law requires an inquiry into whether the candidate has been the subject of a child abuse and maltreatment report.
- New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment, with some exceptions for current City employees.
- Position is open to qualified persons with a disability eligible for the 55-a Program.
- An exam may be required.
