About This Position

ABOUT THE ROLE The Office of the District Attorney in the County of San Diego is seeking a Deputy District Attorney III, which is the journey level class of its series. Incumbents work alongside higher-level attorneys to prosecute complex criminal or civil cases, including murder, conspiracy, sexual assault, fraud, and civil enforcement actions. These cases involve a high degree of public interest and complex legal principles. The role may also include supervising a team of junior deputies. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Prosecute complex criminal or civil cases such as murder, conspiracy, sexual assault, fraud, or civil enforcement actions. - Handle legal matters that involve a high degree of public interest and complex legal principles. - Collaborate and share responsibilities with higher-level attorneys in the office. - Supervise and guide a team of junior deputy district attorneys when assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California. - One year of experience as a Deputy District Attorney II in the County of San Diego, or at an equivalent level with another California county or city prosecutorial agency. - OR three years of experience as an attorney in the practice of criminal and/or civil law. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Disaster Service Worker: Under California Government Code Sections 3100 - 3109, all public employees are designated as disaster service workers and must participate in assigned disaster service activities. SELECTION PROCESS - Qualified applicants are placed on a nine-month employment list based on evaluation scores. - An automated evaluation system reviews supplemental application questionnaire responses. - Applications passing the initial screening are reviewed individually to confirm accuracy and qualifying status. - The job offer and background process begin shortly after interviews conclude. - A background check, including fingerprinting, and a pre-employment medical screening are required prior to employment.
