ABOUT THE ROLE
The Delaware Department of Justice seeks a highly motivated deputy attorney general to join the White Collar Crime Unit (WCCU) in New Castle County, specifically focusing on a Wage Theft vacancy. The role involves working on the full range of WCCU cases while taking primary responsibility for leading the Division's efforts against labor-related crimes, worker exploitation, and wage theft. The position may be eligible for telework up to three days per week.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Decide which cases to prosecute, resolve by trial, or settle, and try unresolved cases.
- Direct investigations and prosecutions of labor-related crimes and wage theft statewide.
- Develop and execute prosecutions under the recently enacted wage theft statute.
- Coordinate with peers in other jurisdictions and conduct training for investigators and support personnel.
- Represent the Unit at meetings involving business crime issues and consult with referral agencies.
- Perform intakes and review cases for prosecution.
- Collaborate with WCCU team members, investigative partners, support staff, and court personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Admission to the Delaware Bar, or a willingness to sit for the next Delaware Bar Exam.
- Understanding of all facets of the investigation and litigation of complex criminal matters.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Ability to evaluate criminal cases, determine resolutions, and anticipate legal issues.
- Strong commitment to working in the public interest.
- Substantial felony trial experience and experience handling document-intensive cases involving financial misconduct are highly preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Statewide travel is required to handle criminal matters across Delaware.
- Familiarity with finance, tax, accounting, or labor law is helpful but not a prerequisite.
