About This Position

ABOUT THE ROLE The purpose of the school counselor is to plan, organize, and deliver a comprehensive school guidance and counseling program that personalizes education and promotes the academic, personal, social, and career development of all students. Working within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) model, the counselor delivers instruction, plans school-wide programs, provides short-term goal-focused counseling, and supports a college and career culture. The foundation of this role is advocating for equitable policies and serving as the advocate voice for students. This position reports to the School Administrator. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Deliver structured district and locally determined lessons to help students attain competencies in academic, career, and personal/social domains. - Coordinate and provide appraisal and advising activities to assist students in establishing personal and future goals using strengths and career inventories. - Provide responsive services to meet immediate student needs, including short-term individual counseling, small-group settings, crisis response, and appropriate referrals. - Deliver indirect services through consultation, collaboration during IEP, 504, or student intervention meetings, and connecting families with community or mental health resources. - Design and implement a comprehensive school counseling program, creating an annual plan and evaluating program outcomes using data-driven decision making. - Utilize data to determine the effectiveness of counseling interventions and provide annual results that support district strategic goals. - Attend professional development sessions to increase professional growth and improve district processes. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Master's degree in School Counseling, or a Master's degree or Ph.D. in another field if all coursework requirements for a Master's in School Counseling have been met. - Valid Washington Educational Staff Associate (ESA) School Counselor Certificate. - Knowledge of implicit bias, culturally responsive teaching, anti-racist practices, and racial equity literacy. - Knowledge of state content standards and district curricular materials. - Ability to set student academic achievement goals, continuously monitor progress, and adjust instruction based on formative and interim assessment data. - Strong decision quality, problem-solving skills, strategic agility, and the ability to motivate others. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Must pass a Criminal Justice Fingerprint and background check clearance. SELECTION PROCESS - The closing date for this position is continuous.
