About This Position
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Math and Science Teacher will foster an effective learning environment and facilitate curriculum development for multilingual high school students at Seattle World School. This is a 0.6 FTE position with classes scheduled between 12:45 pm and 4:40 pm. A background in teaching multilingual learners is strongly preferred. Bilingual speakers, candidates of color, and those committed to culturally responsive teaching practices are highly encouraged to apply.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Foster an educational environment conducive to learning and plan instructional programs to meet individual and whole group needs.
- Use appropriate instructional methods and materials, implement curriculum objectives, and engage in professional growth.
- Establish and implement positive classroom policies, provide guidance, counseling, and discipline, and make referrals when appropriate.
- Confer with students, parents, guardians, and staff to provide guidance, evaluation, and encouragement.
- Establish classroom goals conforming to state and district guidelines, evaluate student progress, and prepare reports.
- Collect and interpret data for administrative purposes and direct the activities of assigned non-certificated personnel.
- Attend required staff meetings, serve on committees, and participate in professional enhancement activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree.
- Academic preparation or experience in teaching a culturally, racially, and economically diverse student population in an urban school system.
- Knowledge of subject areas appropriate to the assignment, effective behavior management techniques, and student safety rules.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and oral communication, with the ability to design and implement lesson plans for students with a wide range of achievement.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate.
- Criminal justice fingerprint and background check clearance.
- Some positions may require valid first aid and CPR certification.
- Some positions may require a valid Washington State driver's license or a Class II driver's license.
