About This Position
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Portland Water Bureau (PWB) Engineering Construction Inspection section is recruiting for a full-time Senior Electrical Inspector. This role takes primary responsibility for interpreting electrical codes and standards, conducting inspections, and reviewing plans for compliance. The position provides specialized lead direction to Inspectors and Trainees, inspects electrical installations for proper materials and code compliance, and issues certificates of inspection, approval, or correction notices. The current vacancy involves providing inspection support to PWB Operations, conducting inspections on pump stations MCC, working with PWB Design Teams to review electrical wiring diagrams, and performing ARC Flash studies to verify equipment safety.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interpret electrical codes and standards and conduct inspections and plan reviews for compliance
- Provide specialized lead direction to Inspectors and Trainees, including scheduling, assigning, and reviewing work
- Train and advise assigned staff on the solutions of technical problems
- Inspect electrical installations for proper materials and code compliance, issuing certificates or correction notices
- Conduct computer record checks, research applicable codes, and check electrical licenses and permits
- Advise on electrical construction methods, code requirements, and permit procedures
- Provide inspection support to PWB Operations and conduct inspections on pump stations MCC
- Work with PWB Design Teams reviewing electrical wiring diagrams to ensure designs meet code and standards
- Perform ARC Flash studies to verify equipment safety
- Ensure a positive customer experience and equitable service delivery
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Knowledge of the National Electric Code and the Oregon Electrical Specialty Code.
2. Knowledge of the practices, materials, and tools used in making electrical installations.
3. Knowledge of proper inspection and plan review procedures in compliance with the Oregon Electrical Specialty code (e.g., Cite It/Write It Rules, OAR 918-098-1900).
4. Experience applying principles of effective leadership and providing lead direction to staff, including scheduling, assigning, and reviewing work.
5. Experience demonstrating techniques and providing training to others.
6. Experience writing documents and reports utilizing research and review of code documentation and references online and in computer databases.
7. A valid state driver's license and acceptable driving record at time of hire.
8. Oregon "A" Level Electrical Inspector Certification at time of hire.
9. Oregon Inspector Certification at time of hire.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Union Representation: DCTU-IBEW
- A second language is preferred but not required.
SELECTION PROCESS
