About This Position

ABOUT THE ROLE The Denver District Attorney’s Office is seeking an Associate Deputy District Attorney to manage a caseload, prepare for hearings and trials, and partner with community agencies and the Denver Police Department. This role focuses on successfully serving survivors, building criminal cases, and assisting victims of crime and their families through the criminal justice system. Current hiring is targeted for the District Court and Domestic Violence Units. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Manage a Domestic Violence docket and meet with survivors and family members. - Assist victims of domestic violence and their families through the criminal justice system. - Appear in court on assigned docket days to build criminal cases and serve survivors. - Represent the People of the State of Colorado in trial and appellate matters. - Provide legal counsel to law enforcement agencies within the Second Judicial District. - Maintain a misdemeanor or felony caseload, including making appropriate plea offers, litigating motions, and preparing cases for trial. - Periodically serve on call to provide legal advice to the Denver Police Department’s homicide unit. - Partner with other deputies, the Denver Police Department, and community agencies. - Apply sound legal practice and judgment to ensure accurate and sufficient case documentation. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Doctor of Jurisprudence degree or Bachelor of Laws degree. - Three (3) years of experience as an attorney at law (Note: The Associate Deputy District Attorney tier specifically requires at least 5 years of relevant experience). - No substitution of experience for education is permitted. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Possession of a license to practice law in Colorado from the Colorado Supreme Court by the date of hire, or a reasonable expectation of becoming licensed by the date of hire in accordance with C.R.C.P. 203.2, 203.3, 203.4, and 205.6. - Ideal candidates will have no more than a total of ten (10) years of Attorney experience. - Must have valid work authorization that does not require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the U.S. - Subject to redeployment to other capacities or agencies during a citywide emergency declared by the Mayor. - Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
