About This Position

ABOUT THE ROLE Serve under the direction and supervision of the Fire Chief as a member of the Fire District’s Executive leadership team. This administrative level position acts as the primary operational leader, assuming the duties of the Fire Chief in their absence. The role provides leadership and administrative direction for day-to-day operations, including fire suppression, emergency medical response services, emergency preparedness planning, and personnel management across the organization. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Assume the duties of the Fire Chief during their absence. - Provide leadership and administrative direction for the Fire District. - Manage day-to-day operations, including fire suppression, EMS, and emergency preparedness programs. - Oversee and direct Battalion Chiefs in support of Fire District Operations. - Ensure open and professional communication with the Fire District, partner agencies, and the public regarding safety and district activities. - Keep the Fire Chief advised of significant activities, issues, and concerns affecting the Fire District. - Adhere to and enforce district Fire and EMS Policies, Procedures, Protocols, Standard Operating Guidelines, and applicable laws. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Associates degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, or a related field. - Twelve (12) years of progressively responsible experience in the fire service. - Three (3) years of direct supervisory experience at the rank of Battalion Chief of Operations or higher. - Nevada, ProBoard, or IFSAC Fire Officer 2 certification. - Incident Safety Officer Certification. - Current or past NWCG Red Card qualified Wildland Firefighter I or equivalent. - Nevada or IFSAC Firefighter II certification. - Current CPR Health Provider certification. - State of Nevada or Nationally Accredited EMT, Advanced, or Paramedic certification. - NIMS ICS certification: 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800. - Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Fire Science, Public Administration, Emergency Management, or a related field. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Obtain Nevada ProBoard or IFSAC Fire Officer 3 within 12 months of hire (variances may be granted based on class availability). - Obtain State of Nevada or International Code Council Fire Inspector I certification within 12 months. - Hold Nevada or IFSAC Fire Service Instructor II certification. - Hold Nevada or IFSAC Hazardous Materials Incident Commander certification. - Pass a criminal background investigation. - Obtain a valid State of Nevada driver’s license with a good driving record within six (6) months of appointment. - Reside within Storey County or a contiguous county within six (6) months of employment, up to 25 road miles of the County border. - Meet and maintain all medical, physical, and certification standards required for the position.
