About This Position

ABOUT THE ROLE This is a full-time Science Teacher position at Chaparral Middle School within the Gadsden Independent School District in New Mexico. The role focuses on creating a flexible instructional program and a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth, while establishing effective rapport with students, parents, and staff. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Comply with the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession and enforce district, local, state, and federal regulations. - Act as a positive role model and instruct assigned classes. - Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning. - Prepare for classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon request. - Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to accommodate diverse learning styles and student needs. - Evaluate student progress regularly, test students, record grades, and send timely progress reports to parents. - Maintain records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation. - Attend staff, departmental, and grade-level meetings. - Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. - Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and parents regarding academic and behavioral progress. - Collaborate with the principal, counselor, and supervisory staff to identify and solve student-related problems. - Supervise students, instructional assistants, volunteers, and student teachers when assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree. - Valid New Mexico Teaching license. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - TESOL Endorsement required (Exceptions apply for teachers licensed to teach Vocational Education, Visual Arts, Music, PE, Pre-Kinder, and ROTC). - Ability to occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs (e.g., boxes of books, AV carts). - Ability to maintain emotional control under stress in a moderate to loud work environment, performing duties both indoors and occasionally outdoors. SELECTION PROCESS - Standard district evaluation and screening process, which now strictly includes the mandatory review of professional reference letters.
