About This Position

ABOUT THE ROLE Salem State University is seeking a full-time, temporary faculty member specializing in Spanish Education, beginning September 1, 2027. This is a joint appointment between the World Languages and Cultures department and the McKeown School of Education. The successful candidate will serve as the Lead Faculty member for Spanish teacher licensure programs, including the 4+1 BA/MEd with Initial Licensure and the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Spanish. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Teach licensure-related coursework, including Spanish Methods I and II, student teaching seminar, practicum, advanced-track courses, and elementary/intermediate Spanish teaching - Oversee and coordinate field placements, practica, and student teaching - Collaborate with the Licensure Office and school partners across PK-12 districts - Engage in service activities in both the Department of World Languages and Cultures and the McKeown School of Education - Collaborate across disciplines to align licensure curricula, assessment practices, and clinical expectations - Participate in state, regional, and national professional organizations related to world language education - Contribute to professional advocacy efforts supporting world language education, teacher preparation, and student access - Advise students and assist with the hiring of adjuncts as needed MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - PhD or EdD in Spanish, World Language Education, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field - Superior proficiency in Spanish - Possession of or eligibility for Spanish teacher licensure at the PK-12 level - Demonstrated expertise in proficiency-based language instruction and assessment - Experience teaching, mentoring, and/or supervising pre-service teachers - Experience and ability to coordinate clinical experiences and work effectively with PK-12 partners SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - This is an on-site, in-person position in Salem, MA - The position is subject to available funding, and future renewal is possible but not guaranteed - Not eligible for H1B visa sponsorship - Employment is contingent upon a completed background and CORI check satisfactory to the university - Standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester in accordance with the MSCA contract SELECTION PROCESS 1.
