Police Officer (Lateral)

ABOUT THE ROLE The City of Glendora Police Department is seeking motivated individuals with high ethical standards and a commitment to public service. This lateral position is designed for individuals currently employed (and having completed probation) as a Peace Officer with a POST recognized California Law Enforcement Agency, or currently employed as a peace officer in another State combined with a California P.O.S.T Waiver of Attendance Certificate. The role involves patrolling assigned areas, preventing crime, enforcing laws, conducting investigations, and enhancing the safety and security of the community. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Patrol assigned areas by vehicle or foot to identify criminal activity or threats to life and property. - Answer calls for police services and enforce City, county, and state laws. - Conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations of disturbances, burglaries, thefts, robberies, vehicle accidents, and other criminal incidents. - As a Motor Officer, patrol on a motorcycle or radar-equipped unit, monitor traffic conditions, and enforce traffic safety laws. - Make arrests, serve warrants and subpoenas, interview victims and witnesses, interrogate suspects, and gather and preserve evidence. - Receive, search, book, fingerprint, and transport prisoners, and testify in court. - Write reports and field notes, attend briefings and training sessions, and perform routine maintenance on patrol vehicles and equipment. - Make traffic stops, issue citations or warnings, investigate vehicle accidents, provide emergency medical care, and direct traffic. - Assist the public, administer first aid, and maintain good relationships with the community. - Act as a training officer, field supervisor, or conduct background investigations as assigned. - Make public presentations to promote crime prevention and serve as a liaison to neighborhood watch groups and schools. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - High school graduate or equivalent. - Successful completion of a POST certified basic academy. - Possession of a P.O.S.T Basic Certificate. - Any combination of education and/or experience providing necessary knowledge and skills (e.g., 2 years of civilian law enforcement or military experience, or completion of an AA/AS degree or equivalent units). - Working knowledge of modern law enforcement practices, patrol, investigation, public relations, report writing, Vehicle and Penal Codes, laws of arrest, rules of evidence, legal rights of citizens, and court procedures. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Possession of or ability to obtain a Class C California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record. - Meet standards of physical stature, endurance, and agility established by the City. - Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire. - Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible for U.S. citizenship (must diligently cooperate in processing citizenship application within 3 years if applicable). - Must maintain a permanent primary residence within 65 miles or less of the Glendora Police facility building. - Pass a urinalysis drug test (positive results are grounds for disqualification). - Compliance with E-Verify employment eligibility requirements.
