ABOUT THE ROLE The New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) is seeking candidates to maintain safety, security, environmental health, and protection at the Mid-Hudson Forensic Psychiatric Center. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Patrol and inspect assigned areas to ensure they are properly locked and secured - Conduct safety inspections of assigned areas and equipment for compliance with safety codes and regulations - Screen visitors and vehicles, issuing temporary parking permits and badges - Transport or escort individuals, visitors, and employees on and off facility grounds - Respond to incidents and emergencies MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Candidates can be considered under one of the following paths: - High School or equivalent diploma or higher degree (for NY HELPS Trainee 1 appointment) - Reachable on the current Safety and Security Officer Trainee 1 eligible list (for competitive class appointment) - One year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law (for within State Service competitive class appointment) SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Must successfully complete a 1-year traineeship and Academy Training mandated by the Municipal Police Training Council to advance to the full performance level - Favorable background checks are required - Must possess a valid New York State motor vehicle operator license at the time of appointment and continuously thereafter (conditional licenses are not acceptable) - Must be a resident of New York State and at least 18 years old at the time of appointment - Must be a US citizen at the time of appointment and qualified to hold peace officer status in accordance with State law - Must pass a physical and medical evaluation to ensure ability to perform duties, including standards for height, weight, speech, vision, hearing, cardiovascular, respiratory, and neurological health SELECTION PROCESS - Applications are reviewed based on submitted materials and eligibility under NY HELPS or competitive class rules - Candidates must meet all physical, medical, citizenship, residency, and background check requirements prior to appointment HOW TO APPLY 1. Mandatory overtime applies.
