About This Position
ABOUT THE ROLE
Hutchings Psychiatric Center (HPC), an Office of Mental Health (OMH) Joint Commission accredited hospital in Syracuse, NY, is recruiting an Assistant Director of Nursing 1, Psychiatric (ADON) to serve as the Inpatient Assistant Director of Nursing. This role provides nursing leadership to all nursing staff assigned to HPC's Inpatient units, reporting to the Director of Nursing 3, Psychiatry. HPC is committed to supporting underserved individuals and reducing disparities in access, quality, and treatment for underserved populations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with the development and implementation of nursing policies and procedures
- Monitor the nursing coverage plan for inpatient services
- Assist with the recruitment and retention of nursing staff
- Contribute to the interpretation of rules, laws, regulations, guidelines, policies, and procedures
- Monitor and review unit clinical and administrative needs through scheduling
- Review and complete performance evaluations and probation reports, and monitor attendance of subordinate staff
- Monitor and ensure compliance with various accreditation standards for nursing services, including Joint Commission and CMS Standards
- Ensure active treatment and nursing documentation is complete and recorded for each patient
- Ensure safe staffing levels related to unit acuity during off tours, weekends, and holidays
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- License and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State
- 3 years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience working with individuals diagnosed with mental illness, addiction, substance use disorders, or developmental disabilities, or individuals in a medical-surgical or long-term care setting
- 1 year of this experience must have been at a supervisory level
- Substitution: A master's degree in nursing may substitute for one year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience; a doctorate in nursing may substitute for two years
- OR for internal State service candidates: 1 year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law
- OR for non-competitive promotion: 1 year of permanent service as a Registered Nurse Supervisor 1 Psychiatric
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must maintain nursing license and/or registration; failure to do so will result in removal from the position
- Cannot be listed as an excluded individual or entity on any Federal and/or State Medicaid and Medicare exclusion lists
- May be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider, obtain a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number, and actively participate to allow services to be billed through Medicare and Medicaid
- Background checks will be required
SELECTION PROCESS
- Candidates from outside and within State Service may be considered under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement - Statewide (NY HELPS) program
- Internal candidates may be considered for transfer or non-competitive promotion if Civil Service Law requirements are met
