About This Position

ABOUT THE ROLE Under direction, this role involves attending a regular basic California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST)-certified law enforcement academy. Upon graduation, the recruit will be sworn in as a full duty Police Officer and perform related work as required. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Attend a regular basic California POST-certified academy providing an overview of the criminal justice system. - Participate in comprehensive training covering laws, police procedures, law enforcement techniques, first aid, and physical fitness. - Drive on City business as required during training and duties. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Graduation from high school or equivalent. - Ability to observe and learn various laws, police procedures, law enforcement techniques, and first aid. - Ability to analyze problems and have the potential to rationally and calmly take effective action in emergency and stress situations. - Ability to undergo strenuous physical conditioning. - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Must be at least 20 years of age to apply and must reach 21 years of age upon graduation from the academy to be appointed as a Police Officer. - Must be in good physical condition, subject to determination by the City Medical Examiner. - Must possess a valid California Class C driver's license or equivalent at the time of appointment. - May be required to reside at a location allowing a one-hour response time to work (requirement imposed six months after completing the initial probationary period). SELECTION PROCESS - FrontLine National written exam. - Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) review. - Note: Candidates who withdraw, fail to appear, or fail any part of the testing process are subject to a 90-day waiting period for re-application. - The City will not release the written exam pass point until all applicants have been notified of their results. HOW TO APPLY - Complete the department application and the FrontLine National written exam through the National Testing Network before noon on Friday, August 14, 2026. - Select the City of Burbank within the testing network to ensure results are shared with the agency. - Complete the required Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) through your candidate account by the closing date to remain in consideration.
