About This Position
ABOUT THE ROLE
Under direction, this position performs a variety of peace officer duties in the protection of life and property for the City of Burbank. Officers patrol assigned areas, enforce laws, conduct investigations, and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls to maintain law and order and ensure public safety.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Patrol assigned areas by foot, bicycle, motorcycle, or vehicle to prevent and detect criminal activity.
- Enforce local ordinances, State, and Federal laws, including traffic safety laws.
- Respond to calls relating to the protection of life and property, traffic incidents, and hazardous situations.
- Conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations of criminal incidents, deaths, accidents, and disturbances.
- Interview victims, complainants, and witnesses; interrogate suspects; and make arrests.
- Collect, preserve, and maintain evidence and found property.
- Serve warrants and subpoenas, and testify and present evidence in court.
- Maintain required proficiency with firearms and other authorized police equipment.
- Operate emergency vehicles in compliance with all laws and regulations under all weather conditions.
- Attend and successfully complete required training courses and physical training.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must meet one of the following education and training criteria:
- Graduation from a California POST-certified law enforcement academy, with a graduation date no more than one year from the application date (Certificate of Completion must be submitted).
- Currently employed in good standing with a California law enforcement agency as a sworn police officer (lateral).
- Currently or previously employed as a sworn police officer within the last three years and eligible for re-hire (lateral). Out-of-state officers must complete the POST Basic Course waiver process and submit a waiver letter with the application.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
- Must be a United States citizen or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship by the filing deadline (citizenship must be attained within three years or employment will be terminated).
- Must be of good moral character with no felony convictions.
- Must be physically fit and successfully complete a required medical examination, including a psychological suitability examination.
- Must possess a valid California Class C driver's license or equivalent at the time of appointment.
- Candidates may be required to reside within a one-hour commute to work (this requirement is imposed six months after completing the initial probationary period).
- Candidates who withdraw, fail to appear, or fail any part of the testing process are subject to a 90-day waiting period for re-application.
SELECTION PROCESS
1. Minimum Qualification Screening.
2. Physical Agility Test (scheduled for Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 9:00 AM for those who pass the minimum qualification phase).
3. Medical and psychological suitability examination.
