About This Position
ABOUT THE ROLE
Full-Time position with the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) Police Department (Job Number: 202600116). BART is seeking experienced lateral officers and academy graduates to protect life and property across the transit system. The role offers a $15,000 hiring incentive, competitive compensation, and diverse career paths in a fast-paced, highly visible environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Patrol a designated area in a radio vehicle or on foot to protect life and property and deter crime
- Respond to suspicious activities and answer emergency calls for service
- Enforce District, city, county, state, and federal laws and ordinances
- Assist in settling disputes, calming angry patrons, and providing crowd direction and control
- Make presentations to community and employee groups regarding personal safety and criminal activities
- Secure information at incident scenes and collect, document, and prepare evidence for court
- Prepare affidavits for arrest and/or search warrants, file criminal complaints, and coordinate with other agencies
- Transport prisoners to booking facilities and process them
- Maintain accurate records and write incident and crime reports
- Work with investigative and legal personnel and present testimony in court
- Enforce traffic and parking regulations, investigate traffic accidents, and direct traffic
- Serve warrants and subpoenas
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma, GED, or recognized equivalent (college credits, military, or customer service experience highly desirable)
- Valid California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
- Lateral Peace Officers: Must possess a valid California POST Basic Certificate and be currently or previously employed as a full-time salaried Peace Officer in California (Out-of-state officers must obtain a CA POST Basic Certificate and CA Driver's License within a specified time)
- Police Academy Graduates: Must possess a valid Certificate of Completion from a CA POST-mandated Basic Academy (certificate must be attached to the application)
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must successfully complete a one-year probationary period from the date of hire, including the Field Training Program
- Must be physically able to drag a body weighing up to 165 pounds and lift/carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Must meet physical, psychological, and background standards
- Must obtain and maintain required P.O.S.T. certification and remain firearm qualified
- Must be able to work various shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime
