About This Position
ABOUT THE ROLE
The U.S. Army Medical Command is hiring Emergency Medical Technicians (Paramedics) who also serve as Motor Vehicle Operators. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation for multiple vacancies across various Army installations. The role involves responding to accidents and emergencies, assessing patient conditions, triaging patients, and providing advanced life support (ALS). Incumbents operate emergency vehicles safely and maintain vehicle readiness. This is an open continuous announcement, meaning applications are accepted on an ongoing basis as vacancies become available. Positions may be permanent, term, or temporary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Respond to sites of accidents, injuries, illnesses, or environmental risks.
- Assess patient conditions and select appropriate treatment protocols.
- Triage patients to determine priority of treatment and transport; notify medical facilities of potential Mass Casualty Incidents (MCI).
- Recognize, stabilize, and treat medical emergencies including heart attacks, strokes, burns, heat exhaustion, and suicidal patients.
- Operate emergency vehicles safely, adhering to traffic ordinances and regulations.
- Maintain emergency vehicle readiness and inspect for repairs.
- Provide advanced life support to patients during transport and on-scene.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level, including:
1. Responding to accidents or emergencies involving injuries and/or illnesses.
2. Operating a patient transport vehicle.
3. Providing advanced life support to patients.
- Citizenship: U.S. Citizen, National, or those who owe allegiance to the U.S.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Licensure/Certification:
- Must have an unrestricted State Paramedic license for the state where the installation is located OR a valid National Registry Paramedic (NRP) certification at time of hire.
- If hired with a state license, must obtain NRP certification within 52 weeks.
- Must obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA sponsored/endorsed).
- Must obtain and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) provider certification (AHA or Red Cross equivalent).
- Must obtain Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) provider certification (AHA or Red Cross equivalent) within six months of hire.
- Must obtain National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within six months of hire.
- Driver’s License: Valid state driver’s license required; must qualify for and maintain an Army-issued driver’s license.
- Medical/Health:
- Pre-placement medical examination required.
- Hepatitis B immunization required for direct patient contact.
- Annual seasonal influenza vaccination required (or recognized exemption).
- Subject to drug testing (pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident).
