ABOUT THE ROLE
The County of San Diego Registrar of Voters is seeking temporary Route Drivers to support logistics and warehouse operations for the November 3, 2026, election. This role involves driving county vehicles to collect and deliver election materials, ensuring smooth and efficient logistics. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and able to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism and non-partisanship. This recruitment is open continuously and may close once business needs are met.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drive mid-size county vehicles using route lists and set schedules to collect and deliver election materials.
- Inspect vehicles before and after routes and complete vehicle logs.
- Monitor equipment and supplies; properly store supplies in designated locations.
- Use GPS systems, maps, and navigation tools; adjust routes as needed for traffic or closures.
- Answer questions from voters, observers, and the general public in a professional manner.
- Work as a team to complete official forms and use technology (smartphone) to track progress.
- Assist in maintaining warehouse cleanliness using brooms, mops, disinfectants, and other tools.
- Perform routine vehicle checks and identify potential maintenance issues.
- Ensure accurate recordkeeping and documentation of collections.
- Adhere to all safety, traffic, and operational regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid California Driver’s License.
- Proficiency in using a smartphone, GPS systems, maps, and navigation tools.
- Ability to operate vehicles safely in varied traffic, weather, and road conditions.
- Strong time management skills to meet daily collection schedules.
- Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge.
- High attention to detail for matching numbers, sorting, and packaging.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and perform repetitive movements (standing, sitting, walking, bending, grasping, reaching).
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a fast-paced environment.
- Professional communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Schedule: Work period is from October 5, 2026, through November 5, 2026.
- Training: September 25 or 26, 2026.
- Oct 5–16: Part-time (up to 30 hours/week).
- Oct 19–Nov 1: Near full-time (up to 40 hours/week), including weekends.
- Nov 2–5: Extended hours.
- Election Day (Nov 3): More than 12 hours in a day.
- Standard hours: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday–Friday.
- Location: Registrar of Voters, Kearny Mesa office (5600 Suite 100 Overland Ave, San Diego, CA 92123).
- Technology: May be asked to use personal cell phone for work activities.
- Attire: Must wear employee badge and access card.
- Conduct: Must represent the Registrar of Voters in a professional, non-partisan manner.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to sit or stand for long periods, lift up to 30 lbs, and perform frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, grasping, and reaching.
- Environment: Work takes place in both warehouse and outdoor settings.
