About This Position
ABOUT THE ROLE
The County of San Diego Registrar of Voters is seeking temporary, full-time Dispatch Drivers to support logistics and warehouse operations for the November 3, 2026, election. This role involves driving county vehicles to collect and deliver election materials, ensuring smooth and efficient logistics. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and able to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism and non-partisanship. This recruitment is open continuously and may close once business needs are met.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drive mid-size county vehicles using route lists and schedules to collect and deliver election materials.
- Inspect vehicles before and after routes and complete vehicle logs.
- Monitor equipment and supplies; properly store supplies in designated locations.
- Use GPS systems, maps, and navigation tools; adjust routes as needed.
- Perform routine vehicle checks and identify potential maintenance issues.
- Lift, load, and unload items repeatedly (up to 30 lbs).
- Maintain accurate records and documentation; match numbers, sort, and package items.
- Answer questions from voters, observers, and the general public professionally.
- Work as part of a team to complete official forms and track progress using technology.
- Assist in maintaining warehouse cleanliness using brooms, mops, disinfectants, etc.
- Use a smartphone for work activities as required.
- Adhere to all safety, traffic, and operational regulations.
- Represent the Registrar of Voters in a professional, non-partisan manner.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid California Driver’s License.
- Ability to operate vehicles safely in varied traffic, weather, and road conditions.
- Proficiency in using GPS systems, maps, and navigation tools.
- Proficiency in using a smartphone.
- Strong time management skills to meet daily collection schedules.
- Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge.
- High attention to detail for accurate and secure collections.
- Physical ability to lift up to 30 lbs and perform repetitive movements.
- Accurate recordkeeping and documentation skills.
- Problem-solving abilities for unexpected delays or issues.
- Professional communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Schedule: Specific hours required from October 19 to November 5, 2026, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and late nights on Election Day (Nov 3).
- Oct 19-22: 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM
- Oct 23: 6:30 AM – 4:00 PM
- Oct 24: 8:30 AM – 7:00 PM
- Oct 25-29: 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM
- Oct 30: 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM
- Oct 31-Nov 2: 8:30 AM – 7:00 PM
- Nov 3: 6:30 AM – 11:00 PM
- Nov 4-5: 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM
- May be asked to use personal cell phone for work activities.
- Must wear employee badge and access card.
- Must follow all health and safety protocols.
- Essential Physical Requirements: Sit/stand for long periods, lift up to 30 lbs, frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, grasping, and reaching.
- Working Conditions: Warehouse and outdoor environments.
