About This Position

ABOUT THE ROLE Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, the Paralegal supports the General Counsel and other senior legal staff in the School Law Unit. The role is confidential in nature, providing legal guidance on issues such as student records, the student code of conduct, enrollment, and educational initiatives. This is a full-time, non-exempt position paid on an hourly basis. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Gather, collect, and review documents for relevancy, and prepare document productions including Bates-numbering and redactions - Prepare drafts of appearances, routine motions, response templates, Board Reports, and other legal documents - Assist attorneys during mediations and hearings by preparing witness folders, exhibits, and subpoenas - Maintain and track the unit's docket of cases, including calendar deadlines for mediations and hearings - Maintain and organize the unit's electronic case files - Process requests for student records and review them to ensure compliance with Federal and State law - Perform legal research on Westlaw and cite-check briefs - Coordinate case management and document delivery with outside counsel and agencies - Process invoices and reimbursement requests - Assist with special projects related to cross-functional work and new initiatives MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - High School Diploma or GED - Paralegal certificate - Minimum of 3 years of paralegal experience in a litigation practice - Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, and Adobe SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university is preferred - Ability to manage a large volume of files and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information - Strong communication skills and detail orientation - Excellent organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills - Demonstrated success working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing team environment - Must establish and maintain Chicago residency within 6 months of hire (Illinois residency required for all employees) SELECTION PROCESS Not specified in the job description HOW TO APPLY Not explicitly detailed in the text; applicants should apply through the Chicago Public Schools careers portal using Job Number 260000L9 EMPLOYMENT DETAILS - Employer: Chicago Public Schools - Location: Central-42 West Madison Street (Law Office) - Job Number: 260000L9 - Position Type: Non-Union Position - Overtime Status: Non-exempt - Benefits: Comprehensive health coverage (medical, dental, vision, pharmacy, behavioral health), financial security (life and disability insurance, pension plans, 403b and 457b retirement plans), and work-life balance (paid leave, sick leave, vacation days, parental leave)
