About the Role
The San Francisco Department of Public Health prioritizes equitable and inclusive access to quality healthcare. Under the general direction of Medical Directors, Senior Psychiatric Physician Specialists provide psychiatric care across the San Francisco Health Network, including Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, Laguna Honda Hospital, and community clinics. This recruitment may fill current and future vacancies on a Temporary Exempt or Permanent Exempt basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct psychiatric care, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for patients in intensive care management settings.
- Conduct field work and collaborate closely with patients and their families.
- Utilize multiple therapeutic skills, combining behavioral, environmental, and psychopharmacological modalities.
- Monitor client caseloads regularly and provide cross-coverage for other psychiatrists.
- Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and clinic quality improvement activities.
- Serve as a liaison with community behavioral health providers and hospital-based psychiatric teams.
- Supervise medical facility sections, units, other physicians, and professional personnel as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of a valid medical license issued by the Medical Board of California or the Osteopathic Medical Board of California. Applicants with out-of-state licenses may apply but must obtain a California license prior to hiring.
- Successful completion of an ACGME or AOA accredited residency program in a Psychiatric medical specialty area. Residents currently enrolled may apply but must complete the program prior to hiring.
- Possession of a valid Drug Enforcement Agency registration with the United States Department of Justice.
Special Requirements
All selected candidates must be eligible billable providers and meet the following within two weeks prior to their start date:
1. Be eligible to participate in Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal health care programs.
2. Possess a National Provider Identifier.
3. Submit a completed credentialing application and required documentation.
4. Possess valid third-party billable provider certification or submit a completed application to obtain it.
